Homemade Soap Bars

Here’s a little southern touch of inspiration…

My mother in law and I decided to try out homemade soap two Christmases ago. She ordered the supplies and we gave them out as gifts! They came out great! Well, we had quite a bit leftover. My grandpa texted me last week requesting a batch of cool water scent. He said he would pay for them. Yea, right! I would do anything for them free of charge. I told him we would break out our skills for him! We also played around with other scents. My sister is graduating from high school in a couple weeks so I will give out a few of the extra soap bars we made and sugar scrub as a thank you gift to the guests! Always taking care of my family with fun little extras! I enjoy it :)

You Will Need
2 pounds of glycerin soap
6 teaspoons of your favorite scent
2 teaspoons of your favorite color dye (varies to get the perfect color you want)
1 measuring cup
A kitchen scale
A square silicone mold
Microwave
Alcohol

Create
1. Place measuring cup on scale and zero it out.
2. Put in 16 oz (1 pound) of clear glycerin soap

3. Heat soap in a measuring cup in microwave (45 second increments.. Stir in between) until the soap is a smooth liquid
4. Add 3 teaspoons of your favorite scent. Stir. I like fruity/tropical scents for summer fun!

5. Add a tiny amount of the color dye you chose. Our dye is a powder dye. A little goes a long way, we did 1/4 of a tsp at a time. I used blue for cool water and mixed golden glitter and a small amount of red to get an orangey-coral color for our tropical scent! Get creative!
5. Stir well.
6. Now you’re ready to pour into your mold! You have several options, a loaf pan, silicone pans, or muffin pan. Silicone pans are our favorite because they are so easy to remove once they are solid! The loaf pan is great to make bars that you cut, like you see in boutiques!
7. Fill each square half to 3/4 full.

8. Important step for a smooth finish!!! Spritz with alcohol!

9. Let sit for 24 hours. That’s the hard part!

10. Pop out of mold.
11.Repeat with remaining pound of clear glycerin soap. Experiment with a different scent or color
12. Try it out! Scrub up! Makes cute gifts :)

Thank you for reading this post! It may seem like a lot, but if you have the supplies it doesn’t take long at all! Let me know how your soap turns out :)

Until next time ,
