Pretty purple agapanthus! I love these neat flowers!

And BOOM

20130523-150726.jpg

I was worried about our hibiscus… I went to town and chopped them off in February. They were getting too big! Glad they grew back nice and full :)

20130523-150828.jpg

Still waiting for the bulbs to start blooming :/

My husband has a lawn service he does as a side job. He consulted me for some landscape design expertise! Ha! We are going tonight to finish up the project! Ryan did a great job planting the pretty flowers and bushes. The clients are happy :)

Stylus wanted to check out the flowers too!

Happy Thursday! I can hear the weekend calling! ;)

Kk’s High School Graduation

My little sister is graduating from high school! What?! Already? She is 6 years younger than me and completely opposite. I love her to death and I’m so proud of her! She will start college in the fall!

20130520-141252.jpg

Note the burlap “Congrats” banner! I made this last minute Saturday. I found a tutorial on Pinterest but I did not have enough burlap and I was running too low on time to go to the store. You can see how to make it {here}

20130520-142636.jpg

I was trying to come up with simple decorations for an outdoor party! I came across this idea on Pinterest & fell in love! It was super easy and entertaining for all of our guests!

I printed lots of pictures of my little sister. Captured moments from a couple months old to present! They were so cute and funny. I tried to have pictures of the guest in the pictures.

20130520-142644.jpg

I wrapped the posts and trees with twine then attached them with clothes pins! Can it get any easier?? It was quite windy but they stayed in place!

20130520-143111.jpg

We had a yummy crawfish boil with friends and family! Sweet tea and party punch- refreshing!

20130520-143206.jpg

Wine and beer also! I used a chalk board picture frame to write her graduation year. (An old frame- I painted the glass with chalkboard spray paint) I set out framed pictures of her beautiful senior photos also :)

20130520-143327.jpg

I made extra homemade soap and homemade scrub a few weeks ago! I set out a sign that stated “thanks for celebrating with us. Scrub up for summer! Please take a jar of homemade scrub or a bar of homemade soap”. You can see how to make the homemade soap {here}

It was a hit!

Also pictured above are pirouette “diplomas”

20130520-143612.jpg

I used these ingredients to make them. We cut the strips- we only wanted blue for the school colors! Simply tie one extreme air head string around the pirouette. Looks like a cute diploma. I forgot to get a cute picture of them!

Side note: do not leave outside in the heat. The humidity made them taste like cardboard. They were no longer crunchy! :/ yuck.

Mom and I were so proud of our graduation hat cupcakes! You can see how to make them {here}

20130520-143932.jpg

Everyone loved our graduation hat brownies also! :) see how to make them {here}

20130520-144055.jpg

We placed these cute graduation year stakes in the flower bed! I wanted to put them in a cute flower pot, but dad liked his idea better. Haha you can see how to make them {here}

20130520-144239.jpg

Of course my sister loved opening her gifts! I got her a monogrammed cup and monogrammed beach spiker for her senior beach trips! I had never seen the beach spikers. You put them in the sand and use it for your drinks or phone so they do not get sandy! Of course I put a little cash in her cute cup! I also got her a straw floppy hat! And this card:

It was college tips that I had thought of for her! :) you can read more about it {here}

We had such a great day celebrating! Please share your graduation decorations and ideas! Ill have another one to plan when she graduates from college ;) and hopefully more fun parties to plan soon! I get a little obsessive, but it’s so fun!

Until next time,

Graduation Hat Cupcakes

20130521-130427.jpg

Easy graduation cupcakes! They are super easy, just take a little time putting together!

20130521-130614.jpg

Ingredients
Fav cake mix
Cupcake liners
24 chocolate squares (Ghirardelli)
24 M&m minis
24 Reese’s peanut butter cups
Extreme air head sour candy strips
Fav icing
Sprinkles (optional)
Icing decorator (optional)

Prepare
1.prepare cupcakes per directions on box. Let cool completely.
2. In the meantime, take the wrappers off of chocolates and cut the extreme airhead candy strips to size. (I cut each strip in half with scissors)
3. Once cupcakes are cooled, decorate with icing. I have a Wilton icing tool I like to use
4. Top with your sprinkles of choice

Now you are ready to make the fun part!

5. Spread a small amount if icing on bottom off peanut butter cup- it will be like the glue for the chocolate square. (the large side will be the base)
6. place the large side on top of cupcake
7. The icing you put on peanut butter cup should be facing up- place chocolate square on top.
8. Put a small dab of icing on center of chocolate square
9. Stick one end of airhead extreme in icing
10. Place another dab of icing on end of air head extreme
11. Place m&m mini on dab of icing
12. Enjoy!!

I used a zip lock bag and cut one corner. I mixed blue food coloring with my white icing and filled my zip lock bag. This made the little dabs of icing easy to do!

Easy Burlap Bunting

20130520-141252.jpg

Note the burlap “Congrats” banner! I made this last minute Saturday. I found a tutorial on Pinterest but I did not have enough burlap and I was running too low on time to go to the store.

Materials:
Burlap
Scissors
Jute or twine
Clothes pins
White paint
Sponge brush

Create:
1. Cut out a triangle for each letter (I made 8. I just eye balled it) you can use your first triangle as a template for the remainder.
2. Lay one triangle on a piece of paper (the paint will seep through)
3. Using the sponge brush, write one letter on each triangle. You may use a stencil but ended I up having to free hand mine. My stencils were too big and I did not have enough burlap.
4. Let dry completely.
5. Start at one end of your jute or twine (leave some extra to use to hang up) and begin hanging each triangle with two clothes pins a piece.
7. Once you have attached all letters-Cut the string, but leave a little extra to use to hang it.
8. Hang your cute bunting and show it off!

Mine was not perfect at all, but I think that gave it an extra southern touch of chic! ;) the tutorials I found used stencils and hot glue to attach the triangles. They actually cut out diamonds and folded them in half over the string to create their triangles. I did not have time! My mom came up with the clothespin idea :) I think it came out so cute! Took about 30 minutes to cut the triangles and paint the letters. I let mine dry over night. The next day it took me about 5 or 10 minutes to attach the letters and hang it up!

Have fun creating! :) hope this inspired!

More graduation decorations to come!

Genuine Love

20130516-161510.jpg

I have been working on my tennis skills! I found a beginner tournament I want to play in :) It’s Labor Day weekend! I have a few months to prepare! I love going on tennis dates with my handsome instructor ;)

When we were playing last night I found this particular ball in the basket. We used it for our engagement pictures! That’s our wedding date written on it: August 6, 2011! WOW, almost two years already. Time is flying.

My grandparents have been married over 50 years. Their love is a type of love I aspire our relationship to become in our old age. They are too precious for words. Ryan and I brought grandma home after a crawfish boil this past weekend. Grandpa saw us through the kitchen window, as always, greeted us at the door. He asked with his hand on the lock, “what’s the password?”. I shouted , “I love you!”. Grandma shouted the same! He opened the door and looked at her and said come on in pretty lady, helped her up the step, and embraced her. With a little peck on the cheek, she said I missed you, dad! He missed her too, that evening. They always show love. It so important to me to show your love.

Grandma and grandpa love to dance and laugh together. Sure, they bicker and fight over small things. Half of the time grandpa can’t even hear! Which causes more bickering. But they sure love each other. You can tell just by watching them for a few minutes. He is always holding her hand and helping her out.

I hope our love continues to grow as we get older! :) It’s the spark that makes marriage so fun.

Too cute.

Contraband 5 mile Run

20130513-143810.jpg

Contraband is a large fair/festival lake Charles puts on each year. I used to love to go as kid and ride the rides. The story behind contraband is that there was a pirate long ago, Jean LaFitte, who buried treasure somewhere near Lake Charles. People dress up as pirates and have a good time out on the boats, relaxing on the lake. They have an annual 5 miler and tennis tournament.

I finished my first 5 mile race this past weekend! It was the first goal I have reached from my list. My goal was to run a 9:30 minutes pace which would be 47 minutes. I ran a 9:04 minute pace and finished in 45:24 minutes! I was very excited and proud!

It was supposed to rain the morning of the race, I was disappointed. The sponsors said the show would go on as long as there was not any lightening. I was determined to participate! When I woke up I was thrilled; it was not raining outside! :) I ended up running by myself, but I didn’t mind! There were 428 nice runners around me to keep me going.

I heard one lady say she had been running a 9:30 minute pace, so I decided to keep up with her. My husband was at the end waiting for me! He was cracking up because I slowed down at the end, looking around for him instead of sprinting like every other normal person would do. Two girls passed me right as I slowly jogged across the finish. I don’t know what I was thinking! Next race, ill definitely be flying over the finish! Haha oh well, just a little goofy sometimes!

I was very happy to see Ryan at the finish :) I had a slice of banana and orange; the pizza did not look appetizing at 8:30 am. It was a great run put on by LAR, Lake Area Runners. Ryan’s aunt told me about a run on 4th of July, I think that will be my next one!

For now, I will run and start focusing on my tennis skills! …and patiently wait for a response from USA.

20130513-144833.jpg

I forgot to stop the clock (should be 45:24 and 5.0 miles)

Do you plan on running any races soon? Have you beat your goals in the past? Any suggestions to train and get faster?

Have a wonderful day,
Kallie Jade

Mashed Cauliflower

20130507-144726.jpg

Wait, what? Cauliflower? Mashed like potatoes? Is this real life?! Yes, and it actually tasted delectable!!

I referenced this wonderful blog!

I read the comments and used some of their suggestions. I did not have sour cream or Greek yogurt so I tried out the milk!

20130507-144851.jpg

Ingredients
1 head of cauliflower, chopped into florets, cut off as much stem as possible
1 red potato (I didn’t peel mine)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
3 tbs parmesan
1/4 cup milk or 1/4 cup sour cream
Chives (optional)

20130507-182036.jpg

20130507-182658.jpg

Prepare
1. Fill a pot with 1 1/2 inches of water
2. Fit a steamer basket over the pot and bring to a boil
3. Place chopped potato and cauliflower into steamer basket and cover
4. Let cook 12-15 minutes, until you can easily pierce with a fork
5. Drain well.
6. Return to pot on stove with heat turned off
7. Let sit for 5 minutes to let the excess water evaporate
8. Add salt, pepper, parmesan, and milk ( or sour cream)
9. Mash and whip to desired consistency
10. Sprinkle with chives
11. Enjoy!

I did not have a steamer basket, but then I realized my rice cooker has a little basket and fit the pot perfectly ! Maybe you have one too and you forgot ;)

Some say these taste a little gritty. I didn’t think they were!

Mother’s Day 2013

Sunday, Mother’s Day, I celebrated my first holiday as a mother (of little furry sylus)! I enjoyed my time with our family!

20130513-141527.jpg

My momma & me! Beautiful day to spend together! She loved her gifts, Tyler Co. Candle melts, cross bracelet, & a dress for her Cancun trip!

20130513-141642.jpg

My wonder mother-in-law that cooked for all of us on her special day! It was a great afternoon! We were all stuffed. She liked her gifts also: wine glasses (I have posted a tutorial) and candle melts!
